Roses are red

Violets are blue

I'm SO over Valentine's Day

I'm hoping you are too

If you're a guy in a relationship, celebrating Valentine's Day is not an option -- it's a requirement. Each year you're forced to top the last and if you disappoint it may be your last. If your girl says she doesn't care about the holiday, guess what? She's LYING!

If you're a girl in a relationship, you spend the weeks prior to V-day trying to predict what your man will do to profess his love for you this year. If he goes all out he's the best thing since sliced bread but let him come up short and you'll find yourself reevaluating how much he supposedly cares because if he really loved you he would have pulled some stunt out of 'Hitch,' right?

If you're single -- like myself -- Valentine's Day simply serves as yet another sad and painful reminder of the fact. And like many, you view February 14th as the commercialized and overly hyped production that it truly is. If I sound bitter, you're right. However, all biases aside there are plenty of people who would agree that the so-called annual 'celebration of love' causes more harm than good and you'll be happy to know it isn't just the "single ladies with their hands up," who feel this way.

"Of course it was Damien's idea to get married, but it was me that took him to Tiffany. He picked a ring, and I got on one knee and asked him to marry me." –Seanmichael

When it comes to black love, the traditional union of a man and a woman is the model to be revered. Yet, there is a segment of the black population whose love is rarely acknowledged within the broader community, but it exists nonetheless.

Seanmichael Rodgers and Damien Ramsey, a couple residing in New York City and engaged to be married this spring, is an example of the love that challenges "traditional" models.

Seanmichael and Damien have been in a committed relationship for three years. Their commitment will ultimately lead them down the aisle in March. Over the past three years, there have been several Valentine's Day memories with each one competing to top the last.

While Seanmichael's plan to celebrate the holiday with his future husband remains a secret, he did reveal that it includes "100 candles, 10 wishes, 10 promises, 10 memories and 10 reasons."

This time yet another prominent and powerful African American man, Charles E. Phillips, 50, president of tech company, Oracle, had his reputation go down in flames after his mistress YaVaughnie Wilkins, 42, plastered at least five billboards across the country proclaiming her love for him complete with a web site with proof of their decade-long affair.

For any 'Real Housewives of Atlanta' fans (and given the show's recent numbers, we know there are many), we know that Ed and Lisa Hartwell are one of the two couples on the show that are actually married. Theirs looks to be a sweet relationship based on love and respect.

In this video from Essence.com, we hear "cougar" Lisa sound off on how the lovebirds met and how they married after only "one month and 23 days" of dating. We also hear from the usually reserved Ed on "being head of his household" and how they are trying for a baby girl these days.

The pairing of beauties and ballers has been around probably since the first cave man hit a rock across a dusty field. You take two stars in their own right and put them in the same circles and, voila, you have a match made in star heaven. What's not to love? They both are established in their fields and they both bring a little something something to the finance table, if you know what I'm saying. Going way back, from Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe to Pam Grier and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the beauty and the baller have been on the world's stage for a minute and show no signs of slowing. Check out a few of our faves and a couple who didn't quite make it across the finish line.

Beauties and Ballers

Game On! La La Vazquez and Carmelo Anthony
This 'Charm School' judge and her younger beau, NBA star beau, are engaged and have a son together. Ever the supportive fiancee, La La braves rude b-ball fans to support him at games.

Game On! David Beckham and Victoria Beckham
Soccer and spice was the winning combination for footballer David Beckham and his Spice Girl-turned-fashion plate wife, Victoria. These Brits are easily the fiercest couple in sports.

Game Over. Tyra Banks and Chris Webber
The unlucky-in-love ex-model and the handsome ex-NBAer called it quits in 2004 after dating for three years. Miss Tyra later hinted on her talk show that his wandering eye had cursed their union.

Game On! Eva Longoria Parker and Tony Parker
This busy actress is no "desperate housewife" to her husband, basketball player Tony Parker, but the Mexican-American beauty and her French-born man are clearly in love.

    Jean Baptiste Lacroix, FilmMagic.com

    Kendra Wilkinson and Hank Baskett
It had to be love for the 'Girls Next Door' star to leave her abandon her posh lifestyle at the Playboy Mansion to start a new life with football player Hank Baskett. The two are set to wed in June.

Game Over. Kobe Bryant and Brandy
He was a high school phenom on his way to the NFL; she was a teen star with a major crush. It was inevitable that Kobe and Brandy hit it off. But after a highly-publicized prom date, this teenage romance fizzled.

    Kim Kardashian and Reggie Bush
Paparazzi can't get enough of this buxom reality star and her New Orleans Saints boyfriend. She might get a little too chatty about their relationship -- she told Tyra he buys her tampons -- but they seem in it for the long haul.

Game Over. Kelly Rowland and Roy Williams
Kelly Rowland was so ready to walk down the aisle with ex-fiance, NFL safety Roy Williams, that she posed on the cover of Modern Bride. Unfortunately, the wedding got called off after the mag hit stands.

    KMazur, WireImage

Game On! Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo
Dallas Cowboys fans might think she's a curse, but quarterback Tony Romo clearly likes her around. The two have stuck together through thick and thin. Literally.

    Rick Diamond, WireImage

Game Over. Halle Berry and David Justice
Rumored to have been a volatile union from the start, Halle Berry and baseball player David Justice's marriage lasted from 1992 to 1996 -- four years Ms. Berry probably wants to forget.
