These days, it's not uncommon for men to leave the house sans their wedding ring. More and more women appear to be okay with the idea, but couldn't there be consequences for women thinking your man is single? Are wedding bands the ultimate symbol of fidelity and devotion in a marriage or just a piece of jewelry?

I have a follow up question, since it seems so many men that commented don't see the need for the wedding band: why even stand on ceremony? why include receiving a ring in the ceremony?

Most of the entire ceremony and its accoutrements are for the benefit of the female that is getting married. Women have placed increasing "requirements" on the process as a means of displaying their ability to have the world aka her girlfriends know that she has been able to convince a man to enter into a contract of marriage. Recently a posting spoke on a female that went under the guise of getting her ring re-sized actually sought to see if the stone was real and what it appraised for. It is nothing more than a females attempt to satisfy her need for ownership and control. As many have pointed out, no ring will ever ensure fidelity just as the lack of a ring will not guarantee infidelity. And for the earlier posting from the woman that believes that women are better at cheating than men, most people get caught at cheating not based on their gender but rather when they reach the point that they couldn't care less about what they have at home.

A ring is a peice of jewelry - nothing more.It doesn't guarantee fidelity, nor does it repel women from a taken man.In fact, a ring is what some women look for when scoping for a man! A married man represents someone solid, working, sexually adept, etc - and they prefer a man who is tied down, but may be available from time to time. I know from experience, women in clubs don't give a rats azz about a ring on a man's finger - they just want him for one night.
Being in a band , as I am - I see it all the time- the "groupie syndrome" - women who just want to sleep with the band just so they can say they did. I never wear my ring when I'm working - it damages the edge of my instruments - but I know how to politely decline the invites and phone numbers. When I'm approached by these (often intoxicated) women - I simply say "I'm flattered, but married" On gigs where my wife is with me, I usually just need to point her out to the woman, and she gets the message. With no one's feelings hurt.If you love your mate as you're supposed to, and cleave to him/her as the Bible says we should - then there is really no need (other than bling)to wear a ring.

I lost my ring in a gay bath house while I was their having sex with big burly macho acting black men. I told my wife it was stolen from the gym locker. I don't think she believed me but we are still married and I'm still getting butt busted.

blah blah blah... If you are married the ring is a symbol of that marriage.. While I can see why maybe some don't wear but most of these stories are full shit.... Wear you ring if you're married and this way no one can assume anything other... And those that believe a marriage is a marriage with/out your it's only a foolish game... If you respect your marriage you would wear your right like a armour...
