Although we'd like to believe America evolved into a post-racial society after the election of President Obama, the reality is race is still a major issue facing our country. For this reason, interracial dating is still considered a hot-button topic among Americans -- despite Hollywood's efforts to turn it mainstream.
Actor Taye Diggs can attest to the difficulties of being in an interracial relationship with his wife, Idina Menzel. Recently the sexy 'Brown Sugar' actor opened up to Voice-Online about the criticism he received for dating and marrying his wife -- particularly from black women.
"We've had to deal with situations in the past where black women would give her attitude or not acknowledge her, and you've gotta nip that s**t in the bud. But for the most part, people have been really positive and I'm proud of that," said Diggs.
The 'Private Practice' star went on to say that it wasn't so much of the attitude as it was the "shunning" by black women that affected him.
"I mean, us actors, we wanna be loved by everybody," he said. "So it did hurt my feelings, especially when it was black women [shunning me] – my mother's a black woman. But you can only be who you are and be proud of that and just brush the other stuff off."
However, a he has gotten older, Diggs said he's become less concerned about what people think of his relationship with Menzel. "I realized what the important things in life are. I can't worry about changing the way that people see me. If you like me, you like me. If you don't, you don't."
Alicia Keys & Swizz Beatz's Baby Gets Blessed
Singer Alicia Keys and fiancé Swizz Beatz had their unborn child blessed in a Zulu ceremony in South Africa after headlining the World Cup Kick-Off Concert in Johannesburg.
Daily Mail reports Keys was chosen to receive the blessing for her assistance with the local children's charity Bobbi Bear, which runs a weekly HIV clinic. The ceremony was a thank you to the songstress for her work with abused children, as well as for providing wages for the workers.
During the ceremony, Keys, who is five months pregnant, and her future hubby, Swizz, reportedly underwent a ritual performed by the female elders. Keys and her unborn child were both given Zulu names as a mark of respect while standing under a fig tree, known to the locals as the "healing tree." Fig trees are believed to bring good fortune and good health.
Keys wore a blue robe that covered her shoulders along with beaded head wear, while Swizz wore a red sarong and leopard print sash. Keys was required to partake in a special dance with drums as her mother, brother and crowd of 50 looked on.
Mel B's Sexercise
Melanie Brown decided to hold nothing back on a recent appearance of the 'George Lopez Show.' When Lopez asked the sexy mama of three how she keeps her body so fit she shared with the audience her favorite workout regimen -- sex!
The former Spice Girl her and her hubby enjoy doing the deed quite frequently. Five times a day to be exact! When Lopez asked if that was possible, the star admitted that on that particular day she was unable to hit her five mark.
"Well, today was a busy day, so it was just three," she said. "Me and my husband, we're the same age. He is my best friend, and I guess we're both just perverts with each other."
Brown has been married to her hubby, music producer Stephen Belafonte, for three years. It's clear that these two are still keeping the spark alive!

True Taye as far as getting older and prioritizing what is really important, now be quiet. This whole discussion surrounding him has been going on for quite some time now.

If you are a woman, and you know for yourself that you wouldn't want Taye Diggs if he wasn't famous, then you shouldn't be one of the women complaining that he's not with you.

If you didn't like Taye Diggs before he was rich, then write him off now that he's rich. That's the problem with black women, because yall always let good black men get away mostly to other races, and every blue moon other black women too. It is clearly obvious that if black women leave all of these thugs alone, and quit acting like the handful of decent black men out there are supposed to sit around and wait until yall's thug lovin' days are over, yall might finally find happiness.

RALPH.....if taye diggs was single right now and he asked me out, i might say yes...in a heart beat....i see nothing wrong with him.....
even if he was not rich....i would still go out with him...he seems to be a nice person...now he might not be my type, but i would still go out with him because sometimes you just never know what God got for you...
but for him to say black women shunned him, i just don't believe it!!!...i think he's trying to justify why he married a white woman, that's all.....and it's bad...the issue i have with men who say sh*t like he said, makes us, black women, look like something is wrong with us......
oh EVERY black woman he approached shunned him???????.....come on now........this is not right!!!....no hate here...he can be with whomever he want.....but..please shut up taye diggs....go make some movies and let this subject go!!!!!!

{{{{ Ralph, you are so right. I missed that aspect dealing with black relationships. Many black women look down on blk men who are plain and just common looking with little money early on in life. I had the same problem growing up; I had to stay with the same g/f from middle school to high school because the other girls don't want me. I wanted to change my cheating g/f but their was no takers. Today, I have been married nearly 30 years to a blk woman. But if I leave her now, or she leaves me, I would definitely date only non-blk women. I have had enough with blk woman. They all want you to pay their bills and their life-styles.

Taye you are doing the right thing. Black women and their friends may shun you. But look at it this way. Most black women, all they want is MONEY. I know this for a fact.Iam now dating a WHITE WOMAN. It is less expensive.

My brother..My brother... I don't where to begin? Let me say this, this is the same ole stupid thinking that the grass is greener on the othertside of the fence due to brainwashing and putting your own down. You think WHITE WOMEN don't want money? Look at those ignorant NBA and NFL players and the the white women that are with them. They are only with them for two things: A LARGE PENIS AND MONEY! A lot of white women are are greedier over money than black women or any other women.
Attitudes of black men and women like yours ONLY SERVE ONE PURPOSE AND THAT IS TO FURTHER BREAK US APART SOCIALLY AS AFRICAN AMERICANS. Without a SOCIAL BOND, we as a people won't have anyhting else and believe me in Black America the SOCIAL RELATION ASPECT OF BLACK LIFE IS MISSING ON ALL LEVELS, ESPEICALLY THE FAMILY AND THAT IS WHY WE HAVE THE PROBLEMS WE HAVE TODAY. By putting your own down for someone else of another color is not going to help black men and women get back to unification in love and marriage, especially with someone whom you can't relate to regarding life struggles as connected to your racial background.
White America HISPANIC AMERICA, ASIAN AMERICA AND ARAB AMERICA ALL HAVE SOCIAL BONDS AND BASES, that's why they are prospering and WE ARE NOT. The social bond carries over into education, relations between men and women and just basic life functions in regards to treating each other with RESPECT, rather than denigrating each other through explicit terms and negative beliefs of each other.
If you think all black women want money, then myself as black man will work as much as I can to take care of MY BLACK WIFE. I HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND THAT STATEMENT. So I can one day show my CHILDREN and other blacks LOVE BETWEEN A BLACK MAN AND BLACK WOMAN that IS free of THE SELF HATE AND RACISM WITHIN A RACE AND SO THEY WILL NOT BE CAUGHT UP IN THE IGNORANT BELIEF OF PUTTING THEIR OWN DOWN FOR SOMEONE ELSE.
