Why is it so difficult for black women to find a man? This is a topic that for most black women--regardless of their marital status--has turned into a song that never ends. Despite the redundancy, the media exploitation is far from over. 'Nightline' decided to take yet another stab at the hot topic last Wednesday. The news special was met with great criticism from black females for it's lack of solution to the so-called 'problem' facing black women. The segment, titled "Why Can't a Successful Black Woman Find a Man?" featured a face-off between a celebrity panel made up of Sherri Shepard, Jackie Reid, Hill Harper, author Jimi Izrael and Steve Harvey. The relationship "experts" went on to debate the endless reasons behind why the majority of black women in America are still single.
Black Voices spoke with author of, 'Don't Bring Home A White Boy,' Karyn Longhorne Folan about her thoughts on the recent 'Nightline' special and found that she was less than impressed by the panel's 'advice'. " I'm not trying to say they're not intelligent or that they don't have anything to say but when we want to talk about this seriously we'll get experts; people who are psychologists, doctors and sociologists and that will be a dialogue meant to reach some actual solution," says Folan.
At one point during the 'Nightline' forum, it was suggested that it may be time for black women to take after their male counterparts and begin dating outside their race. The idea was met with great applause by many women in the audience.
Although it's still considered taboo for black women to date outside their race in mainstream America; Hollywood starlets have never been afraid of keeping their options open. Actresses like Diahann Carroll, Whoopi Goldberg and Diana Ross have been getting their 'swirl' on for years and recently Halle Berry, Sanaa Lathan, Zoe Saldana and Paula Patton have had much success in interracial relationships.
Maybe we should take a hint from our leading ladies in Hollywood and broaden our horizons to add some depth to our dating pool. Click through our gallery to see a number of leading ladies who have crossed the color line to find love.

Most black women prefer to date BM, however most BM dont have that same loyalty. Black women need to start dating out of their race more and let who ever dont like it need to deal with it, just like they do when bm date outside of their race. further, the number of bm are just not there, with the bm incarcerated, gay, married, not quality meaning cheaters and abusers and marrying outside of their race, it is just not enough bm to go around. So BW need to start to at least be open to the idea dating outside their race.

Why is it that black women don't aknowledge that they are into thugs as being part of their problem? Look at a lot of famous black R&B singers and actresses. Who do they chose to date? I don't see them flocking towards the squeaky clean type. Why is it that when a famous black woman hooks up with the thugged out type it's just considered a cool hook-up, but when black men date white women it's just so bad?

Speak for yourself, you are just looking for an excuse to use. Why not just be honest and allow people to date whomever without having no reason or having to explain, if this is what you want JUST DO IT

Black Women can date White Men all they want as long as they are docile and submissive as their white counterparts, have thesame work ethics as their white counterparts, erase the idea they are just going to sit their butt home talking to another man on the phone while the white man is working his butt off to put food on the table, they don't bring drama associated with black women, leave the White man's credit card alone, and don't trash the house and the neighborhood.

Loyalty? What law is this? I heard that crap from all different races about their own ethnic group's men. And I still don't get the "invisible racial rule". Everyone should fcuk EVERYONE. And after everyone has a big RELEASE they won't even think about race. They'll be too tired and relaxed.

Even the writer of this article,Hayat Mohamed(name indicates Muslim) would not advocate his/her marrying outside of their Race & Religion to a practicing Jew,Christian or Hindu without repercussions and ostracizing, but yet he poses this damnable question to Black Women.
Black women have choices: Brazil,Cuba,Puerto Rico and all other West Indian Countries, they too came from Africa.... Mexicans,Asians and Hawaiians these unions God blesses to.
White men are not lining up to marry with BW and rightly so. Remember what the musician John Mayers
said? Good for him.
